As many of you pointed out there is very little reason to perform testing of Jaxtr and magicJack. Jaxtr links two telephones, while magicJack is a telephone jack and telephone number that uses your computer’s USB port. The question is whether a magicJack users can use Jaxtr. Obviously they can. Would the person prefer to associate their cell phone with Jaxtr? The answer would depend on the person’s cell phone plan. If you have unlimited calling and rollover minutes you certainly don’t need to be as careful as if you had a plan with night and weekend free calls only.

TracFone users would prefer to associate magicJack with Jaxtr, but the person would need to be near their computer to do so. Those who cruise the Internet on their cell phones would not use magicJack unless they are at home or in the office. Thus we are experimenting. Besides, it is fun and something to play with.

As we see it magicJack would appeal to people with high speed internet and no home phone. Cable modem users come to mind. Unfortunately some parts of the country require users to have a phone number before they can have DSL service. Elsewhere, DSL is provided without a home phone number requirement. The service is called naked DSL. Thus there is a market for magicJack and the magicJack offer of unlimited telephone service for only $19.95 per year.

We will address our specific testing of magicJack in part 3 of this series. There is no requirement that mandates interactivity and functionality between specific services and ideas. If you want to participate in testing or if you want to leave an opinion, suggestion, or idea you can call us.

For the next few days your Jaxtr calls will be routed to a pure voip (voice over internet) telephone number in New York City, and sent over the net to our office in Missouri south of Kansas City. Watch our blog to see any changes to that setup. We appreciate your support, and my wife will be happy if I am not handing her a telephone or cell phone for another test.

To summarize thus far, when Jaxtr was routed to our RingCentral telephone number the caller was greeted by our recorded company greeting, followed by five extension options. Jaxtr was clear. DTMF tones were passed to the switchboard software, and the caller was directed to the proper voicemail box or outlying location. For instance when a caller selected our eBay store the California-based Ring Central software sent the Jaxtr caller to our store telephone number in Missouri. Every Jaxtr call was free, clear, and echo-free, even if the caller was from another country half way around the world. We could not ask for a better scenario.

Furthermore, when Jaxtr is routed to a pure voip service such as Stanaphone the mashup functioned perfectly, just as it did with Ring Central. (Sorry, Stanaphone is not accepting new signups at this time.)

Tomorrow we will write about detailed testing of magicJack. Look for part 3 of this series and keep sending your ideas.
