I have my Jaxtr set up to receive free calls on the weekends so I can talk to callers from around the world. This morning I received a test call from the Philippines. Sometimes you just don’t know what to say other than ‘hello, your call sounds clear.’ But I happen to be a boxing fan and remember sitting next to my dad as we watched Friday Night Fights on ABC back as early as 1962. I was 13 years old back then. So when I got a free phone call from the Philippines this morning I knew exactly what I wanted to ask about.
Travelling when you are a Jaxtr user has many benefits over traveling with a VoIP phone. When Jaxtr is linked to your cell phone or mobile phone you know your calls will get through. One great feature of VoIP phones, on the other hand, is they follow you. The drawback is that you must have Internet access, either through wireless or a fixed connection. With Jaxtr you don’t have that requirement. There are inherent drawbacks to some VoIP phones because people cannot call them from traditional telephone systems. At this time there is no way to call my Google Talk telephone from your home phone or mobile phone.
Thirty years or more have passed since I was in India. I’m not sure where the time has gone, but I talked to a man in India on the phone today. He called me so after we introduced ourselves we talked of technology and the financial markets. Jaxtr offers free sign-ups in India so if you want to call a friend in India for free Jaxtr is your answer. Did I mention your friend can also call you for free? I decided not to write about free telephone calls to Mexico until I received one and had a chance to check it out for myself. I did receive a call from Mexico this afternoon and it was perfectly clear, free, and powered by Jaxtr. I’ve been to Mexico before but I didn’t study the availability of cell phones and what the coverage is like. I decided to visit a friend of mine who has family in Mexico.
This morning I received a cell phone call from Rwanda while I was trying to wake up with a hot cup of coffee. The caller had a few questions about how Jaxtr works, so I referred to http://www.jaxtr.com/user/faq.jsp which is the Jaxtr FAQ, and we talked for a while. The call was clear and the caller’s accent was just like in the movie Hotel Rwanda. (Hotel Rwanda with Don Cheadle was filmed mostly in South Africa, with some filming in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.) The caller spoke english.
