A call from the United Arab Emirates rang through to my desk today and it reminded me of one my former students. Let start by saying the call from the United Arab Emirates was a free Jaxtr call. The caller was fluent in english and we spoke for a shrot time. After the call I thought back to the days when I was a teacher.

One young man would always come outside to visit with me when the class took breaks every hour. This particular guy was returning to the United Arab Emirates when he graduated. He spoke of being born in Yemen. At the time Yemen was divided in to North and South Yemen, which always seemed odd to me becasue they look like they would be east and west Yemen on a map. At any rate half of Yemen was Communist, and both parts were interesting. This young man said his father decided, quite correctly, that the family should move to the United Arab Emirates.

The young man spoke of his family, what he wanted for his children, and how he liked school in the U.S. but he really wanted to be home. During our free Jaxtr call today I thought how all people, regardless of where they are, basically want the best for their families and loved ones. As teachers we always want the best from, and for, our students. Once again a free phone call, thanks to Jaxtr, brought back memories and gave me a smile. If you want to call friends in the United Arab Emirates, and the ability to send text messages and voicemail get Jaxtr for you and your friends. I only wish we had it when I was a teacher, and I would have told all my students about it.

I’ve never been to the United Arab Emirates. I’ve been to all the surrounding countries, so I’m waiting on calls from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Oman. I already received a free Jaxtr call from Qatar, but others can call any time. Once my father took me to Iraq in the 1950′s, to Basra, and up to the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. After the trip we returned home to Ras Tanura Saudi Arabia, which is where I was born. My dad worked for ARAMCO – the Arabian American Oil Company from 1944 until 1959. Besides Ras Tanura, we were stationed in Dhahran and Abqaiq.
